On-air Submissions

Posted by Joshua Bowren On July - 16 - 2009

How do I get my show on the air ?

So you’ve got the show all taped and edited, how do you get it broadcast on Community Access Channel 10.

1. Scheduling
The first step is to complete and submit the Release to Cablecast form in order to have the show aired. Once the form is received, Media Network will then schedule your program. Here are a few considerations for scheduling:

  1. “Locally Produced Programming”, i.e., programming which is substantially created, taped, filmed, or otherwise produced within Waterford Township can take priority over non-locally produced material.
  2. Programs that are found to contain adult content will be scheduled to transmit AFTER 11:00 p.m.
  3. Programs are schedule on a first come first serve basis. The program will retain its scheduled  time slot until the program fails to provide current programs.

2. Submission

Programs should be submitted to the Media Network of Waterford as an MPEG2 file on a data DVD. Producers may walk in a hard drive or flash drive and copy the program straight to our digital playback server. The MPEG2 format should be 720×480.  You should have your completed tape submitted to Media Network at least 24 hours before the scheduled broadcast. Tapes / DVDs must be labeled with the title, segment number and length of the program. If you’ve requested scheduling time for 30 minute or 60 minute program, make sure your show doesn’t run over. Our digital playback server will cut the program off regardless if it is done or not.

Our digital playback system does not require countdowns, color bars or lead-ins. Keep your program tight. Fade up, present the show, fade out. Any pad added to the beginning or the end of your program will broadcast as dead air.

Delivery and return of your tapes is your responsibility. Make arrangements to pick up your materials once they have been aired, you’ll want to hold onto your creations!

3. Promote

Make sure you have a game plan to let Waterford residents know your show is on. Media Network staff will be happy to give you some creative ideas to promote your show and ensure that you start to build a captive audience. Promotion is the key to sucess with your program. Promoting your show is just as important as producing it.
